Job Description
Location: Remote
Job Type: Full Time
Department: Engineering
Pomerium is building identity and access management infrastructure for the internet, helping organizations of all sizes improve their security, facilitate remote work, and scale globally. We are a fully remote company, headquartered virtually, with employees distributed across the United States, North America, and Europe. Having recently closed a $14 million Series A funding round led by Benchmark, we’re looking to expand our team!
As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer, you are the critical bridge between our core engineering team and our most important customers. This is a flex role for a highly technical, extroverted SRE who thrives on solving complex architectural challenges and building strong customer relationships.
You will act as a trusted technical advisor during the sales process, design sophisticated solutions for customer needs, and provide expert-level support for our largest accounts. You are, in effect, a hybrid Sales Engineer (SE), Solutions Architect, and senior SRE. This role requires a very high technical bar and the social credibility to confidently guide technical teams at major Fortune 50 / hyper scale organizations.
We need a doer who isn't afraid to jump into a customer's environment, write code, debug complex systems, and clearly communicate the path to success.
Pre-Sales Engineering: Partner with the sales team on customer-facing calls. Lead technical discovery, build proof-of-concepts, and design solutions that map customer needs to Pomerium's capabilities.
Solution Architecture: Act as the primary technical capacity for architectural design. Create reference architectures, deployment guides, and other technical content (e.g., blog posts, documentation) to help customers and the community.
Customer Support & Success: Serve as a key technical contact for our strategic customers. Help manage customer relationships, troubleshoot deep technical issues (via Slack, email, video), and ensure their long-term success
Technical Advocacy: Champion customer feedback and advocate for product improvements, features, and bug fixes based on your "in-the-field" experience.
Internal Collaboration: Work closely with the SRE/Ops team, lending your expertise with tools like Terraform and Argo to improve our own infrastructure and processes when not directly engaged with customers.
Deep Technical Expertise: 5+ years in a senior SRE, DevOps, or similar role. You’ll be able to establish your credibility through experience, best practices, and getting your hands dirty working on a wide field of technical problems
Collaborative & Communicative: You are a strong, clear, and empathetic communicator. You enjoy talking to customers, building relationships, and can "talk shop" with senior engineers at top tech companies.
Curiosity and a generalist mindset: You are comfortable learning new technology quickly, jumping in wherever there are problems to be solved, and thrive on each day bringing something new.
Infrastructure, Cloud, and On-prem experience:
Hands on experience running production systems and debugging unfamiliar environments
Experience with the tools of the trade: Kubernetes, Terraform, Observability tooling, CI/CD platforms and network debugging tools
Experience working in the cloud or on-prem
Security Mindset: You’ll act as a subject matter expert not only for our product, but also for infrastructure security generally. You’ll be making recommendations and explaining trade-offs for impactful technical decisions.
IAM & Networking Knowledge: Experience with HTTP proxies, OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, and other identity and access management technologies.
Previous remote work experience and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, distributed environment.
Willingness to travel occasionally for customer visits and conferences.
Nice to have:
Systems Architecture experience: You’ve designed and implemented scalable systems to meet business needs
Project management: You’ve worked with varied stakeholders to ensure large projects continue to progress and meet deadlines.
Experience with compliance and regulated environments: You’ve worked in SoC2, ISO27001 or othe compliance regimes. You’ve worked with health systems, financial data or other regulated industries.
Deep knowledge of several cloud vendors (GCP,AWS, Azure, etc): You’ve built production systems in more than one cloud environment. You can speak to how and when a company should contemplate a multi-cloud strategy.
Pomerium has a fully remote and distributed work style that supports you to be where you need to be to do your best work.
We are passionate about helping individuals and companies manage and secure internal access.
Pomerium is a stable, well-funded, Series A startup.
You will work alongside some of the most exciting companies in the world to help them be successful with their missions!
Competitive Compensation: Salary and equity that reflect your skills and experience.
Flexible Work Environment: Work remotely from anywhere in the world. Must be primarily located in the US.
Health & Wellness: Comprehensive health benefits and generous PTO.
Professional Growth: Opportunities for learning, training, and attending industry conferences.
Meaningful Impact: Shape the future of secure access and make a difference in cybersecurity.
If you’re excited to be part of a fast-growing security company and help shape the future of access control, we’d love to hear from you!
